That’s right, its Friday which can only mean one thing. I’m presenting my top picks for what you lot need to watch this weekend. Its a right old melting pot of film goodness, kicking off with a boy racer, moving swiftly on to a man on the hunt for reality and ending up with Scarlett Johannson well, seducing men and doing all sorts of random creepy weirdness with them – not to be missed I promise!
And if that wasn’t enough, every Thursday we give you the box office run down of what is hot at the cinema box office, so if you want to see where your hard earned cinema going cash has been spent this week, then check out Amon Warrman’s latest rundown.

Happy Valentines Day one and all – if you’re planning a trip to the cinema, back row, none of that nonsense, then I’ve got a great little nugget of information for you on what to watch. There’s something for every type of romantic out there, from the toe tapping through to the quirky and reserved, and even the big kid romantic in you.
There’s a super large amount of great stuff on at the moment, so if you don’t have any plans as yet then take advantage of your local multiplex. Spread the love for cinema if nothing else!

When my friends told me it cost them £15 to go watch the Wolf of Wall Street this weekend, even though I’m a huge fan of the film, I was compelled to find somewhere SOMEWHERE that provided a much cheaper solution to watching great films for less. So, luckily I stumbled across Vauxhall Village.
Back for a second season, this company bring the big screen to original and unusual locations. This time round they’re turning a disused railway arch in Vauxhall into the tunnel of love for one weekend only. From the 13th 16th February film fans can come down to a mixture of screenings, ranging from the quirky art house and indie flicks, to the old school classics, as it seems that there’s something to suit all tastes!
Vauxhall Village have previously brought us outdoor summer screenings in the pleasure gardens and festive delights in the railway arch, this time round love is definitely in the air. So its a great place to head down early to soak up the atmosphere, with friends, your other half, your family or your next door neighbour’s cat. They’ve got a bar so you can sip champagne cocktail, in aid of Valentines day you can pick your loved one up some flowers at the flower stall, or just treat yourself to some chocolate fondue! Sounds like much more of a fun night out I think!
The films are being shown on a big screen at the back of the arch, comfy chairs, wireless headphones and cosy blankets will be provided.
Can you believe its Friday again? That’s great news! Why? Well, because you get to watch all the latest releases at your local cinema. This week is extra special because the extraordinary Dallas Buyers Club is out. It features as part of this weeks Gone in 60 Seconds line up, so make sure you check out me in action hosting the next big run down of fantastic films for you to watch.

Well its been a busy start to 2014 for me, I’ve brought together some of my favourite people and my favourite subject to develop a brand new film show for YouTube called The Reel. Its launching in February, but we wanted to start getting some of the content out there, including a very quick round up of the weeks hottest films that will be hitting the cinema every weekend.
So, introducing the pilot episode of Gone in 60 Seconds, our top tips to watch at the cinema this weekend. As it is a pilot episode please forgive the couple of technical hitches that have been happening (mainly the sound) but regardless of this you get the gist, so it would be great to see what you all think.

Well what a night it was last night. The first really big milestone (which most of the world is interested in – probably more because of the fashion than the film sadly!) in the road to the Oscars. There were some expected big winners – Steve McQueen’s 12 Years a Slave picking up the coveted Best Film award, Jennifer Lawrence scooping Best Supporting Actress, putting her front of the queue for an Oscar second year in a row, Cate Blanchette for her tour de force masterpiece in Blue Jasmine and Leonardo Di Caprio for his outstanding performance as Jordan Belfort in The Wolf of Wall Street (this picked up Best Actor in the Musical or Comedy section). It was also great to see Alfonso Cuaron picking up the Best Director award for the technically astonishing Gravity, the only other real contender to pip Steve McQueen to the Oscar post later this year – that will be an interesting race!
There were however a few surprises – which were totally deserved if not initially predicted. Firstly Matthew McConaughey picked up Best Actor for his role in Dallas Buyers Club, something I thought was slightly missed off the BAFTA radar, but to be fair is going to be released in February so its understandable why its not yet nominated on this side of the pond, never the less greatly recognised in Hollywood and makes the Oscars race that little bit more unpredictable. I was however hoping for Chiwetel Ejiofor to scoop the Best Dramatic Actor award for 12 Years A Slave, and also something for Michael Fassbender in a supporting category, but they were both content supporting their director as he, rather unprepared and breathlessly accepted the Best Film win (as if he was really THAT surprised!)
Anyway, win, lose, it looked like a fantastic night with American Hustle doing very well and some of our homegrown talent being recognised across the pond – Idris you did very well!!!

If you had any worries or concerns that Director Gary Ross’s successor would be turning this sequel into a Twilight esq format, where each film has its own unique stamp per director, and the lead character looks more and more bizarre as the films progress, then fear not, as The Hunger Games – Catching Fire continues the franchise brilliantly.
In the second installment of the hugely popular film adaptation, Tribute victors of the 74th Hunger Games Katniss Everdeen and Peeta Mellark become targets of the Capitol after their victory sparks a rebellion in the Districts of Panem. As a result, President Snow decides to hold the 75th Hunger Games in which all previous victors will once again fight against each other.
If you have been a fan of the books and then watched the first film, you may have felt a little short changed in terms of the detail throughout the Games section itself. Catering to a 12a audience, the first installment of this franchise lacked some of the more graphic scenes of violence throughout, and replaced this with clever jump cuts and edits to keep the action flowing. I for one, was one of those people, and felt slightly underwhelmed when walking out of that original viewing.
However, this second film seems to have found its feet much more – realizing that there is a large share in terms of older audience members, it quite purposefully takes more risks. There is a whipping scene involving Gale Hawthorne (Liam Hemsworth) the shooting of an old man who dares to acknowledge the revolution, and a very unceremonious punch to the face for Katniss Everdeen (Jennifer Lawrence). Although these are all wincing to the eye, they are a refreshing progression for the film, and as the film tackles more grown up subject matter, you very much feel like you’re watching a much more grown up film.
Once again the lead characters are portrayed well. Lawrence’s Katniss Everdeen is brooding and thoughtful, more of the relationship between herself and Hemsworths Gale is explored, and Josh Hutcherson’s Peeta Mellark has realized that he must suppress his feelings in order to play the game and put on a great show. There is also an influx of new cast members (all the other Tributes get killed off in the previous film – in the style of a less brutal Battle Royale!) and one of the biggest surprises of this is Sam Claflin as Finnick Odair. With a flawless American accent, a smile to melt a lot of hearts in the female share of the audience, this British actor will probably use this character to cement his place in the Hollywood heart throb elite – Robert Pattinson better watch out!
Out with the old and in with the new is the way this second running of the film works, the style has been cleverly matched by Director Francis Lawrence to its predecessor and not a minute of filming is wasted. Even if you’re coming to the movie having loved the book, its truthful approach to what is written will be a welcome relief, and it may even hold some surprises for you too. Plenty of action for everyone, some eye candy for both boys and girls, and a very enjoyable film to watch. You will not be disappointed!
We may have to wait until 2014 for the film to come out, but that doesn’t mean there isn’t plenty of time for some teasing from the studios. Here we go with some hot off the press character posters.

The ultimate X-Men ensemble fights a war for the survival of the species across two time periods in X-MEN: DAYS OF FUTURE PAST. The beloved characters from the original “X-Men” film trilogy join forces with their younger selves from “X-Men: First Class,” in an epic battle that must change the past – to save our future.
Mark Wahlberg is making some clever role choices this year, showing he’s versatile, engaging and exciting to watch… in 2 Guns he positions himself against the great Denzel Washington and proves to be a fantastic sparing partner full of quick wit, muscle and great comedic timing.
The film itself follows the two Hollywood heavyweights play a DEA agent and a naval intelligence officer who find themselves on the run after a botched attempt to infiltrate a drug cartel. While fleeing, they learn the secret of their shaky alliance: Neither knew that the other was an undercover agent.
Speaking of working with Denzel Washington, Wahlberg said at a recent press conference in London, “It’s just one of those things, it either works or it doesn’t. He was game, I was game; we had a great part and a great director in Baltasar, who knows me and how I like to work. I like to improvise a lot, and I like to constantly be throwing curveballs at people, and he was just up for it, so it kind of worked.”
We certainly see this working to a tee in the film, as well as a fantastic pre-credits opening scene where the fun friendly relationship is established between the two characters, we also learn that some of the quick quips that Wahlberg throws out during a ‘chicken shooting scene’ are actually improvised, which will have audiences rolling with laughter throughout.
What’s great about this film is most certainly the relationships. When actors work well together on set it comes across brilliantly on scene, this is very apparent here. Not only from Wahlberg and Washington but with Paula Patton as a supporting DEA agent and love interest, plus the superb Bill Paxton who plays Earl a ruthless CIA agent.
2 Guns remains fast paced and exciting throughout, it brings back sentiments of Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid, but unfortunately it’s nowhere near as memorable. It’s certainly a film that you could go to the cinema, and enjoy with your friends, but in terms of a staple addition to your collection, we’re not so sure. Never the less, if you’re a Denzel, or a Mark Wahlberg fan, you wont be disappointed, for Denzel he steps away from the serious and brings his smooth talking ability to centre stage with great ease, and for Wahlberg we see another slightly off the wall sidekick character which shows that he’s got some serious acting chops as well as his muscle.
