Incase you missed it yesterday, I was on 5 News Talk Live with the brilliant Nick Duncalf talking about whether or not the film industry (that has an unprecedented 20 films over the $100 million mark out this summer, 6 more than last year) are headed for the ‘dud’ zone.

Award season might be over, but I managed to receive a burst of award buzz back through my door as the lovely people at Channel 5 News sent me a copy of my Oscar predictions appearance last Friday. I managed to score a hat trick (not the previously thought 2/3!) which made watching it even better, so if you missed it last week, then here I am (at about 2:21mins) chatting all things Oscars with the fabulous James King. So yesterday I featured with fellow film critic Simon Thompson on Channel 5 News, to discuss the BAFTA nominations announced that day. Was Skyfall left short of the awards noms – we thought so, but weren’t that surprised, and is Lincoln deserving of its 10 nominations? Yes, but that again wasn’t surprising as the film is pure awards bait.

So everyone knows I like to talk a lot about film… sometimes I can’t shut up, but I was gobsmacked when Channel 5 News asked me to be their film critic for the Twilight premiere in London. Naturally I obliged, and well, here’s the end result. A fantastic feature by 5 News, and my twenty seconds of fame is at about 2mins 14secs in… enjoy watching.
Well what a difference a day makes…
As I walked past the Twihards in Leicester Square, penned up in their camping gear like cattle, my mind wasn’t on RPatz’s twinkly diamond vampire face or KStew’s newly acquired red contact lenses… it was on what makes this phenomenon so big and would I be able to chat about it concisely and coherently.
Why was I so nervous? Well, they may have been strolling down the red carpet that evening, but yesterday morning I was preparing to make my screen debut for none other than the brilliant Channel 5 News. What a difference a day makes, on Tuesday I was sat at my desk with a hot cup of coco when the phone rang with 5 News asking if I’d like to be a film critic discussing this films’ success and future. Absobloominglootly!!!
So in the space of 24 hours I was hot footing it to Leicester Square ready for my close up and as soon as I get the link I’ll share it with you all. What a coup! Very humbled to be asked, and hopefully its the start of more great things to come. In the mean time, here are a couple of shots of me on the programme.
